Our local health sector is undergoing innovative expansion and modification with new public and private operating theatres and other facilities under construction. As an employee of Te Whatu Ora, the New Zealand national public health system, you will be part of a collaborative team within the head and neck service providing high quality care, improving equity and health outcomes for our local population, with a high Māori and Pasifika population. The team is supported by a registrar, a house officer and a clinical speciality nurse and moving forward an additional registered nurse to support. The department is well equipped for all aspects of modern head and neck health care.
There are opportunities to develop subspecialist interests that will complement the department’s current service. We also have close ties with allied health departments, other specialities that we interact with, as well as regional and tertiary services to provide a comprehensive package of care. The department also provides medical education for undergraduate students and postgraduates.
Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is situated in Hastings, New Zealand, a region of over 162,000 people. The hospital is a modern facility with a large range of surgical, medical, oncology and radiological services. As a Maxillofacial specialist you will be supported by a managerial structure invested in providing support for you and new technologies.

Included in these programs are medical (MD) and dental (DDS) students within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (the School), which accounts for the only other dental school in Ontario that is outside of Toronto. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has a long tradition of excellence, beginning with the founding of the medical school in 1881 and continuing with the formation of the dental school in 1964. It is one of Canada’s preeminent medical and dental schools and is known for being the birthplace of family medicine in Canada. Accordingly, the dental school draws on a highly qualified and talented pool of applicants that train in very rigorous and demanding professional programs. Applications are invited for two (2) full-time positions in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The successful candidates will be appointed to Limited Term academic appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Schulich School of Dentistry. The successful candidate will be appointed for a term of up to 5 years. The successful candidate may have a 50% reduced workload to allow the successful candidate to perform 50% clinical service at London Health Sciences Centre and/or St. Joseph’s Health Care London, subject to the approval(s) of the appointments by the hospitals. Depending on qualifications, including a sufficiently strong track record in research, teaching and/or administration will be considered for an appointment at a higher rank. This position would be effective July 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is housed within the Schulich School of Dentistry and the Teaching Hospitals of Western University, which include Victoria and University Hospitals of the London Health Sciences Centre as well as St. Joseph’s Health Care. Facilities include clinics in the hospitals, operating room access and a state of the art out-patient operating room facility within the School of Dentistry.
Candidates must possess a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent; have postgraduate specialist training in oral surgery; FRCD(C) certification (or eligibility) and fellowship training in an OMFS sub-specialty is preferred. The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for and maintain an active appointment with London Health Sciences Centre / St. Joseph’s Health Care, Department of Dentistry | LHSC and be eligible for full licensure within the Province of Ontario, subject to the approval(s) of the hospitals. Teaching and research experience required, and administration experience would be an asset.
The successful candidate will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching and will be expected to teach both didactically and clinically and will serve as a course director. The incumbent will be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of undergraduate dental students, dental clinical fellows and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents assigned to the affiliated teaching hospitals. Effective administration as part of the Undergraduate Dentistry
Program, the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Program and the Dental General Practice Residency Program will be a component of the position.
This position will be compensated by an academic salary for the academic component and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The compensation and benefits plan will be prorated in accordance with the Reduced Workload, as appropriate. Clinical service time is compensated through private billings and fee for service.

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Position – Wellington, New Zealand
About us
Wellington Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a private surgical practice in the centre of the capital. The two surgeons Wayne Gillingham and Kush Patel would like a third surgeon to join their team. We provide the full range of surgery excluding malignancy and have the full range of inhouse equipment and staff for 3D digital planning and printing for implant and orthognathic surgery. Jessica Buchanan is a visiting surgeon with a special interest in facial pain and oral medicine. We share the premises with 3 dermatologists which works well. Our practice is a cheerful enthusiastic place with high productivity and early adoption.
About you
We are looking for a surgeon that is keen to continue to develop their skills and contribute their talents to the group. We both participate in on call and services at the local public hospital and would hope you would join us in building this service as well. You will need NZ specialist registration.
About the position
Your week is flexible; likely 2-4 days of private practice. The majority of our minor surgery is done in one of our 3 on-site operating theatres mostly under IV sedation. You may choose to have 1 session a week for GA work at a local private hospital. Then one day a week in the local public hospital system. Within our region there is high demand for Oral & Maxillofacial services so you can tailor your week to what works best for you.
